Key Stage 3
The Key Stage 3 pupils are studying a wide range of topics in Science this year, across all three strands of Science. Our aim is to make Science as practical as possible for our students to show them how Science really works. This has included making erupting volcanoes, investigating acids and alkalis, discovering the properties of light and making full use of the school’s new Science Lab. We are continuing to work through the AQA Key Stage 3 programme of study and will be looking forward to topics such as Reactions of Metals, Chemical Energy and Magnetism.
The focus in Maths this year has been to reinforce previous learning and to slowly introduce new topics to the students. There has been a main focus on pure Maths topics but these have been interspersed with topics such as Lateral Thinking and Problem Solving to widen pupils’ abilities and thinking skills. Lessons have seen a spread of activities to make Maths fun and interesting and a competitive element at times has certainly helped with this target. All pupils have shown a keen interest in the subject and are continuing to progress very well.
